Inexorable Entropy
Escarnium

People ask why many acts in Brazil follows extreme Metal tendencies, and the explanation is simple: it’s a tradition here on these lands. But people can feel on the lyrics of extreme Metal tendencies here a mix between disgust, hatred and impotency, and it’s a fruit of the oppressive reality of the country’s social mean. To be born in Brazil is to live in in a hell between the habits of the days of colony from the elite and oppressive economical needs, what leads many to drown in depression and anger that leads to heavy medicine and drugs, and sometimes, to a need to overthrow such tyrannical way of living. And it’s not a mere coincidence to feel the unrestrained aggressiveness of “Inexorable Entropy”, the new full-length of the Brazilian Death Metal masters of ESCARNIUM.
Sergej Dukart (recording, sound engineering of the vocals, mixing, mastering), Reinaldo Jr. (recording, sound engineering of the drums), and Alex Hahn along with Nestor Carrera (recording, sound engineering of guitars and bass) are the ones who built the sonority of the album. In a way, it brings a form of Death Metal sonority that’s usual on Brazil, but with an amazing level of definition that allows the fans to hear and understand everything that’s played, even that little arrangements that are usually hidden in the mix. And Nestor along with Hugo Venâncio did the artwork as well, creating a disturbing and great artwork that states clearly what the songs are, and what the lyrics depicts.
Hailing from Bahia (a fertile state of Brazil for legendary Metal acts), these guys are showing a great and interesting mix between influences of classic Death Metal with some technical moments and even influences of Progressive Death Metal (as heard on some parts of “Inexorable Entropy”) contrasting with furious blast beats, but always respecting their inner Death Metal identity. And the technical appeal of some parts in impossible to resist to, making of the quartet a leading force in Brazilian Death Metal scene, and it’s not a joke! And the lyrics full of anger and anguish fits perfectly on their songs.
After listening to the intro “Fentanyl” (a synthetic opioid to deal with pain, that many use to get high, and causes 70,000 deaths by overdose only in USA per year), and to “Relentless Katabasis”, “Cancerous Abyss”, “Inexorable Entropy”, “The Heritage”, “Revulsion of Carbon”, “Through the Depths of the 12th Gate”, “Ashen Path” (another intro, here with an horror-like ambience) and “Pyroscene’s Might” are songs with excellent rhythmic shifts (what means that bass guitar and drums are excellent), insane guitar riffs and sickening leads (that forms a sound wall impossible to resist to, due many musical hooks) and excellent death growls on the vocals (following a tendency similar to Ross Dolan, but with a personal outfit), and for Metalheads is what the doctor recipes to endure the oppressive reality of Brazil!
As final words, it must be said that “Inexorable Entropy” is one of the finest releases of Death Metal on this year, and that if you’re into Metal, any Metal genre you can think of, the name of ESCARNIUM must be taken seriously, and deserves a place in your collections.
