Entrails - Raging Death album cover

Out of the light and into the darkest pits underground, the dead walk the earth looking for a feast. Hail the cemeteries and their uprising population, nothing is sacred, no one is safe from the next thing about to rot for eternity. Returning to the old Swedish wounds, scars and bone crushing obsession of the early 90s, another buck shot straight to a frightened face, exploding the skull's membrane into shreds, with the glimmer of blood, death is imminent and so is the Metal, ENTRAILS arise to feed upon the remains. While being an unknown story for nearly eight years from the early to late 90s, ENTRAILS, led the fierce crusher of an axeman, Jimmy Lundqvist, new blueprints for the next rampage were set in motion but only came to reality in the later decade. Recently, and with two previous releases under their belt along with a steady lineup, ENTRAILS ascend with "Raging Death", let history to once again take its course, revealing the grandeur and obscenity of earlier European Death Metal relics as ASPHYX, DISMEMBER, GRAVE and early ENTOMBED, Lundqvist was probably there to witness these band's early rise.

In the last couple of months I had a chance upon observing / listening / reviewing various types of Death Metal bands presenting venomous material in the spirit of the old grinding Swedish Metal scene of the early days. Frankly I found so much in common, no real pressure points that might indicate ingenuity or anything of sorts, but plain devastation, meat grinding and charring Death Metal bash fest. Here and there I found a band being a bit melodic than the other, but in the bottom line, they all eventually sucked on the same remains. ENTRAILS is a band of no difference when it comes to their fissionable musical efforts and even their production and sound engineering values, great work by Dan Swano on the mixing and mastering by the way. While Lundqvist being the veteran behind the band's Death Metal inclination, it was obvious from the get go, but on the other hand, it didn't come as a bad thing on "Raging Death". Lundqvist took some great pointers, and it shows on the significance of their previous duo releases. Through likeable rampant chunky utensils as "Death League", "In Pieces" and "Cadaverous Stench", ENTRAILS depicts impressive hostile, classic in orientation, Death Metal riffing, amusing themselves with several ideas of extreme Doom Metal façades that seemed adequate, combining a collection of pace changing rhythms and hard dues on the bass line. Furthermore, a few ample soloing with slight twitches of melancholic melodies, as if a funeral was in session just around the block, crisped the smell of burning flesh swaying in the breeze.

While other tracks being solidly caustic and in a manner of speaking, taking down the common road of the deathly tones, "Raging Death" turned out to be yet an additional tally of the early varsity accumulations of the old Swedish kind, but with smelly, hitherto tasty, odour. It didn't live up to be overachieving technically, but it was neither divergent. ENTRAILS demonstrated their measured admiration for the old days and their wish for their swift comeback. "Raging Death" is a proof of solid tuning, and should be a one of the integral parts of your Death Metal collection.
