If you are reading my reviews then you'll probably know that I don't like telling lies to you; in order to keep it that way I have to admit that I really like female fronted bands and especially the albums that bear a folk atmosphere with them and implement an Irish accent on the vocals. Yes, you've guessed right; this is the case with EILERA. Eilera is a singer and songwriter from France who has already released some demos and EPs in the last four years with the useful artistic input from the guitarist Loic Tezenas.
In most of the Fusion reviews you will come across the word Gothic that is used to describe the 10 tracks. In this review this will not happen since I don't believe this is a Gothic album. Ok, there are some melancholic feelings scattered in most of the songs but that's the closest to the aforementioned music genre. The folklore element dominates from the various string instruments to Eilera's Celtic voice timbre. The electronic sounds and samples add greatly on the music diversity of the album while the violin makes me remember the glory days of SKYCLAD. The Metal elements can be found in the distorted guitars with some pretty good riffs that look up to the early days of the THE GATHERING like in the groovy Healing Process.
You can really enjoy Eilera's deeply emotional and dynamic performance in songs like Fusion where she sounds like Bjork or the clean guitar and violin driven track The Angel Your Love... The Angel You Hate. In Back To The Essentials we get some really good guitars that work as an outlet for the tension that is building through the slower and more atmospheric parts of the song. One of my favorites is the track Free... Are You? where the folklore elements build an atmosphere that takes you a trip through the Celtic hills.
Well, it's pretty clear what will you find or should I say listen if you lay your hands upon Fusion. If you are a folklore freak as I am and you are in fond of the female vocals then this album deserves a place in your CD collection.
