Prophecy

Edge Of Paradise

A fine mix between Modern Metal, Metal and Symphonic Metal is heard on this album.

When dealing with younger bands, people must have in mind that their music can be influenced by bands that had success in some moment, but that is usual for some fans to ignore such fact. As a proof of such a hypothesis, try to deal with “Prophecy”, the latest full-length of the North American quintet EDGE OF PARADISE without having such kind of doubts. The album was produced by the band itself (talking advantage of having experience as an act in studio), having the helping hand of Mike Plotnikoff in the recordings (that were done at West Valley Recording Studios), and with mixing and mastering done by the hands of Jacob Hansen. The sonority is modern and defined, using those aggressive and greasy instrumental tunes, but anyone can check their melodic/accessible vein as well. And what a very good artwork of Margarita Monet.

Their music can sound enigmatic for those into Old School Metal tendencies due the lack of value that’s usual for such kind of fans, forgetting how acts as EVANESCENCE, NIGHTWISH (on “Once” days) and some others had evident influence on Modern Metal tendencies. It’s melodic and catching (and even accessible, as heard on “Give it to Me (Mind Assassin)”, but nasty and aggressive as well, and it’s not a sin to assess that they make a modern mix between influences of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Industrial Metal, Symphonic Metal with touches of New Metal. Well, forget the labels, just enjoy!

“Death Note” (with some Rapcore and New Metal elements on the mix, with greasy guitars contrasting with tender moments), “Give it to Me (Mind Assassin)” (this is a modern song with clear accessible insight, with charming chorus, vocals and has Ben V. of LUDOVICO as guest), “Prophecy Unbound”, “Sad Life of a Rose” (this one is rich on contrasts between aggressive moments and tender parts, with very good work on bass guitar and drums), “Rogue (Aim for the Kill)” (the Hard Rock side of the band’s music becomes evident on this one), “Hear Me”, “The Other Side of Fear” (again the Hard Rock side of the band’s music is clear on its melodies and charming guitars), “Martyr (Monster)” (this one is filled with a massive energy and melodic groove), “Relive Again”, and “Falling Light” is a very good ser of song, and fans of Modern Metal tendencies will surely love them.

“Prophecy” is a very good release, but it’s clear that EDGE OF PARADISE is just starting to show its musical talent.
