War Of Attrition

Violence can sometimes be precious and helpful in many ways. It can make you calm down, it can make you express your feelings towards someone and it can also inspire DYING FETUS to release incredible albums! The brutal warbringers come back with their fifth studio album that will hopefully blow my brains on the wall, just like every other DYING FETUS album did!
Formed in 1991, DYING FETUS have with no doubt managed to be ranked amongst the top Death Metal/Grindcore acts. They have been through many shit like line up changes and they have also been criticized from fans because Gallagher said that he prefers Rap more than some Metal in several interviews. Having released four full-length albums, they now release their fifth one through Relapse, wanting to prove that the passion and the violence is still there.
Their new violent effort was recorded at Hit & Run Studios in Rockville, Maryland, and it seems that the producer has done a really nice job. The sound is raw and heavy as fuck, just like DYING FETUS' music! I read someone's review for this album and he said stuff like Gallagher and crew (I think that's what rappers call groups of friends nowadays) got fat and happy on Relapse royalties and was very offensive towards the band. I have to say that I disagree 100%! Yes, the album doesn't match the devastating fury of their earlier releases in my opinion, but it still kicks some major ass! You have to know something mates, DYING FETUS definitely prefer to split up than release a fucked up mediocre sellout album. If they wanted to put some extra money in their pockets, they would play something else! Anyway, War Of Attrition is a classic DYING FETUS release on every aspect. The brutality remains the same, the compositions are incredibly fast, the technique is kicking ass for one more time and the album's duration is, as always, approximately 36 minutes. The riffs are groovy and can make the listener headbang until the very last second of this album. The new drummer, Duane Timlin, has done a great job and fortunately made me forget every doubt I had regarding his ability to continue the work of Kevin Talley and Erik Sayenga. His drumming is more than great and he is definitely something more than the classic Death Metal drummer who sounds more like a drum machine.
So, do you want eight songs full of brutality, speed, groove, technique and rawness? I think this album is just for you. Definitely a must have for all the fans of the genre. This band managed to create something very good for one more time.
