Altar Of Instant Gratification

I am currently listening to DUFT, a Metalcore/Hardcore band that came to fruition in 2021. now, some three years later, they are releasing their debut album with the extensive title “Altar Of Instant Gratification”. It is not often that I come across a band from Reykyavik, Iceland when I have to review them. I am currently listening to DUFT, a Metalcore/Hardcore band that came to fruition in 2021. now, some three years later, they are releasing their debut album with the extensive title “Altar Of Instant Gratification”. I was very hesitant at first, as I felt that this was just a very limited Metalcore record. But when I delved into the matter a lot further, I had to admit that this was better than I expected. It just took me a large number of listening sessions before I really started to appreciate the musical content that they have put on this debut album. In other words, this one's a grower, not a shower....

As for explaining the their musical direction, Metalcore and Hardcore are indeed the main components, but they forgot Thrash Metal, as that does creep up fromn time to time. Put all these elements together, minus the emo influences of Metalcore, and you will have a good idea of where to place DUFT. The two really big bands that came to mind for me were SOULFLY and MACHINE HEAD. Can you imagine a band that mixes the heaviest elements of these peers? Well, you should, and you will undoubtedly hear even more inluences flying by left, right and centre.

In just over 36 minutes the guys from DUFT are able to draw you in one atom at a time, but like I said, you have to give it time. I know a lot of you will get this a lot faster than I did, but I do know that the increasing joy of listening to these young guys and enjoying each liatening session just a bit more than the last one, is very rewarding. It does help that DUFT is able to write good songs, that make “Altar Of Instant Gratification” into such an impressive album. Yes, their songs all have that je-ne-sais-quois, that will make you start tapping your feet, adding to the attention you are giving them and finally coming to your Eureka moment, when you realise you really are digging DUFT's accomplishments on “Altar Of Instant Gratification”. If on the other hand that moment never comes for you, you at least have given them your best, and like me will be able to tell others why this isn't your cup of tea. It's not mine either, as I rather see this as a well rested whisky that gets better with age.
