When was the last time you heard a decent 2 piece band worth remembering? You really don't remember, do you? DRON, a promising Stoner Metal gang of just 2 from the outskirts of Aarhus, Denmark, is worth your 12 and half minutes of your life.
Starting with longest song of the EP, which was also the first released song, "Judas" has heavy distortion filled thick stoner riffs. I can't help but headbang to the juicy mid tempo riffs of the song. With "Beg And Please", DRON makes it clear that the boys mean business, as they bring in notoriously fast paced riffs, but slow enough to allow me to air guitar to them. The guitar solos are commendable and are not over used. The song also illustrates guitarist Anders Birkekær's ability to blast solos at the right time. "Black Lies" is a slow musically sludgy drone filled song as the drums of Henrik Lauritsen control the progression of the song helping the listener to head bang along the riffs as the clean screaming vocals of Anders also makes its serious presence felt in the overall music. The band finishes of with a faster track "White San Diego", where the vocals sound as if they are sung from an end of a tunnel to the listener, bringing in quite a variety and flavour within just the 4 tracks.
'Judas' as a whole does remind of a few recent Stoner metal bands like UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS and RED FANG, but the boys create their own music and are worth checking out if you're a Stoner Metal fan, and as mentioned earlier has a few drone and sludge elements in the music too and you will be surprised what magic can just 2 talented musicians can do!!
