From the EPK: Giles Lavery is best known as the vocalist of WARLORD, ALCATRAZZ and JACK STARR. On top of that, he is also a highly prolific band manager, record producer and label co-owner. DRAGONSCLAW is the name one of the first bands Giles Lavery formed in 2010, while still residing in Sydney, Australia. Their debut album “Prophecy” was quickly recorded in 2011, followed by “Judgement Day” (2013). And now, a record breaking twelve years later, it’s time for the follow-up. Apart from Giles Lavery on vocals, “Moving Target” features Australian citizens Ben Thomas (guitars) and Aaron Thomas (bass) as well WARLORD members Mark Zonder (drums) and Jimmy Waldo (keyboards). So, in 15 years this is only the third time that DRAGONSCLAW has decided to allow us to listen to their musical meanderings.

But hey, when they come back, they do so with a vengeance, because what is on offer on “Moving Target” is by no means stuff that an already sated and established band would put out onto the market. No, this sounds more like what a hungry pack of Hard Rocking Metal musicians would give to the world around them. Is sounds like DRAGONSCLAW has decided that they have a point to prove and are doing it in the best way possible, by musically making their point unmistakeably clear. It has resulted in very uplifting and inspiring renditions of what the band has in their stride, making listening to “Moving Target” a very pleasant experience. And no matter how experienced or well known some of the band members are, nobody is at the forefront. On the contrary, every musician (and even the vocals) are put in place to provide the songs with the best possible presence possible.

Don’t expect any new grounds to be discovered on “Moving Target”, but just expect DRAGONSCLAW to do their best to prove to you and me, the listeners, that Melodic Rock doesn’t have to sound jaded, bland or boring, but that it is possible to make it sound exciting, invigorating and full of life. That not every song hits the full mark is to be expected, but as an album “Moving Target” hits the spot where it should, in the brain and in the heart. Because the fact of the matter is, once you do start listening and taking notice, there is no escaping the fact that DRAGONSCLAW has got his talons just where they want them. Escape is futile.
