When I say that Black Metal has become one of the most boring Metal genres I believe I am 100% right! Except from several bright exclusions from this rule, many bands out there are trying to bust our balls with groundbreaking ideas (only in their dreams!). Thank God there are still bands like ROTTING CHRIST, MAYHEM and WATAIN (and some others I am bored to mention right now) and keep this scene alive.
The Czech blacksters DRACO HYPNALIS (I knew this band would suck just by its name!) were formed back in 1995 if I am not mistaken, when Ivos met guitarist Mira and a drummer that was kicked out of the band for not showing up for recordings. Anyway, the band has already released its debut album in 2005 (Weavers Of Unrest) and a split CD with ROMANTIC LOVE in 2000. After signing with Zero Budget Productions, the band recorded and released its sophomore full-length effort.
Imagination is an album full of boring Black Metal with neoclassical touches and incredibly irritating programmed drum sound, which sounds totally fake. The band seems that it hasn't managed to find its identity and mixes elements like Black Metal with some neoclassical guitar leads, Folk touches and Avant Garde elements that will remind you of BURZUM's legendary Dau?i Baldrs album. DRACO HYPNALIS have many good ideas, but they end up being scattered throughout the album, making absolutely no sense to the listener.
The production is also totally demo level and reduces the interest someone could find in this album. I believe that the Czechs have to try harder and present ideas that have been worked much harder in order to make us spend our money on them. Until then..
