The Immortalist, Part Two - Momentum
Divinity
In the times we are living, we have to deal carefully when we are hearing new bands or those ones who are constantly evolving their musical styles. I must state that some ones are evolving in such way that we can have the wrong idea about the bands' age. That happened when Big Daddy here was hearing "The Immortalist, Pt. 2 - Momentum", the new 4-track EP from Canadian quintet DIVINITY (this one is from Calgary, Alberta, and not from Quebec). These guys are veterans (the band was formed back in 1999), but their musical style is that modern and aggressive way of Melodic Technical Death Metal, and their songs sound fresh and different, with some influences of modern Metal styles, but without losing their musical identity.
The sound quality: is excellent, balancing perfectly the aggressiveness, the weight of the songs and clarity they need. It's a very good work of Christian Donaldson, who did the mixing and mastering of the EP. Their four songs are all excellent, sounding really great. "Manhunt" is aggressive and brutal, using very good rhythmic changes and excellent contrast between harsh and clean moments, with fine extreme and clean vocals. The same elements can be heard on "PsyWar," with a better technical work (where the guitars are ruling supreme with fine riffs and some good solos). On "DMT", you hear a more melodic insight on this brutal and technical song, where bass guitar and drums are doing a fine work, and it has as a special guest Bjorn "Speed" Strid (from SOILWORK) on vocals. "Momentum" is a more aggressive song, with some modern tunes used on the guitars, which can be a sign that the band is going into new ways for their musical work. Overall, a pretty good work and a show of how evolve without losing your personality.
