Disout - Mien album cover

In a time when the new and the old forms of music are living side by side, some bands prefer to the things in a simple and direct way, trying to evade to be caught into conceptions from both sides ('nor new or old, just music' can be a fine description in these cases). And this is the main idea driving the work of the Polish quartet DISOUT, and "Mien" states clearly. Their musical work has a deeper feeling of honesty, just playing a form of music that blend Metal and Rock 'n' Roll elements, without any compromise with conceptions. Technically is simple, modern, and sounds sometimes as BLACK SABBATH on its earlier days (due the musical weight), sometimes like a Punk 'n' Roll band, and with some Groove Metal elements as well. They're not trying to reinventing the wheel, just playing their music and enjoying it, and as it bears a strong modern and melodic appeal, and an immense amount of hooking energy. It's the kind of music the listeners use to hear when times are nasty and you're bored from anything that isn't fun.

The production worked on a way to give the quartet a clear and great dose of weight, but balancing the clarity and energy in the same way, creating something that can easily be understood by the senses, but that is defined on the instrumental tunes and that unleashes an amazing set of melodies. Their musical work is honest, and it's just their first album. But by songs as "Blindness" (a heavy dose of energy and an amazing weight, and the crude approach on the guitar riffs creates a link to the past in some moments), "Lullaby" (a modern set of melodies that comes from Rock 'n' Roll and Punk Rock creates a clear accessible appeal, and the work of bass guitar and drums creates very good Groove rhythms), "Our Desire" with its deeper and introspective ambience, the melancholic feeling that permeates "Dissonance", and the contrasts heard on "Try to Convince Society" (where the vocals are showing a very good set of different tunes) are the ones for a first ride in their musical work.

Maybe in the future DISOUT's could be seen as a new option for those that are tired of conceptions and struggles between 'new' and 'old'. For now, "Mien" sounds as a refreshing blowing wind on an eroded landscape.
