Collapse The Void

Lately I have been doing some "research" on the US Black Metal scene discovering more and more hidden diamonds as time goes by. DIMENTIANON comes to be added to my "to search" list after listening to their brand new album "Collapse The Void". If you think that the US is all about mid tempo, "atmospheric" Black Metal like XASTHUR and LEVIATHAN better think again.
Founded in 2002, DIMENTIANON have already released several demos, as well as two full-length albums, with this being heir third one. The band is balancing between Black and Death Metal, with Black Metal being their most basic ingredient. The band's main characteristics are the heavy riffing and the wicked guitar melodies, making you wonder whether these guys are truly American or have something to do with the Swedish scene. Dare I say, these guys bare some similarities with WATAIN, especially when Swedish horde decides to go mid tempo! With its Black/Death (with a really slight "thrashy" approach), the US quartet seems to know what its doing and makes a promising step. Extra kudos for the exceptional sound, which is exactly what this band's music needed, clean, yet raw enough to keep this aggressive feel.
The only negative thing is that this album is too short for this kind of release.
"Collapse The Void" has an approximate duration of 27 minutes and when we're talking about extreme music (Grindcore excluded) it just can't be enough. Anyway, this band has a bright future ahead of it and I hope they grab every chance that comes in their way.
