Another impressive studio Project to rank in the Dream Team category, a brand new Super Rock Band that features some of the most reputed musicians in the British AOR/Classic Rock scene.
The Group is articulated around the famous Vocalist Robert Hart (BAD COMPANY/ Manfred Mann's EARTH BAND) who has re-released last year, a very interesting CD retrospective containing his two solo album in one package , originally published between 1989/92 called "Cries & Whispers" his soulful voice is somewhere between Paul Shortino & Joe Lynn Turner and his talent is more than obvious, his singing performance only, is worth enough to justify the buying of the album with closed ears. The other founding member is the FM's Guitarist Jim Kirkpatrick (should i say "new") who he's playing his heart out ("Lets Take The Long Way Home"), and reveals once again here his full technical skills and his melodic potential with a juicy sound, a real guitar hero tasty tone, the riffs are classic, set in a traditional mode but always exciting and magnificent, his superb Songwriting capacity is only equaled by his huge licks arsenal, the duo is working as a perfect oiled machine, in a nice coherency with a fine combination that blends creativity with talent !
Of course, as you might expect, the style is highly tagged in the 70's Hard Rock roots spiced by some slightly Motown flavors ("Starting Over" / "What You See Ain't What You Get") and timeless Rythm & blues elements ("So What Is Love" / "Coming Home"), crafted with an easy listening method with plenty of sticky hooks, and are seconded by an amazingly harmonized and powerful backing-vocal choir where you can clearly discern the complementary warm voice of Steve Overland (FM / SHADOWMAN / OVERLAND).
The opening track "Love Under Cover" is an high-octane song with a fast pace but enhanced by clever arrangments, the fantastic melodies and the groove displayed in "Into The Fire"/"Fortune Favours the Brave"/"Brand New Day" are top notch and not really far from the original FM style...Era "Aphrodisiac".
This signature sound is more or less present in the structure of each song with some inclusion of some more tagged parameters, a new density from the swing straightness of "Bitter And Twisted"/"Told You So" in the DEEP PURPLE's fashion, to the shuffle rythmic pattern of "Lets Take The Long Way Home", if i except the 80's simplicity of "Skin And Bones" there is not a valid reproach and not a single trace of a filler here !
The technical side is handled by the mixing skills of Danish knobs wizard Tommy Hansen, the flawless production by Jim Kirkpatrick & Robert Hart is incredibly pristine yet organic, but still very clear and polished in the most elegant high end AOR trend.
The teenage vintage revival overcrowded market will ignore DIESEL, but i'm pretty sure that if the promotion is carefully done, the Classic Rock/AOR mature fans community will praise this platter to its value!
