Devil City Angels

New Rock super-group DEVIL CITY ANGELS have released their self titled debut album, called, off course, "Devil City Angels". The band was formed by LA GUNS's Tracii Guns and contains members of other famous 80's Metal bands like WHITESNAKE and POISON.
And that they make very clear from the beginning, playing mainly the kind of Hair and Glam Metal which made bands like the above notorious and famous. From the beginning of opener "Numb" on you can hear the eighties and the Sunset Strip leaking from the vocals and guitar riffs. They immediately remind me of MOTLEY CRUE as well, but not quite as good.
It's more the easy kind of 80's Metal the band displays, and so they keep doing in "All My People" and "Boneyard", which takes it all up a notch, with some more energy and prowess than the starters. The guitar solos are of the typical Hair Metal kind as well. "I'm Living" and "No Angels" are more of the same, but luckily the monotony in the songs doesn't get annoying or boring. Still waiting for something heavier and faster though, like, for instance, something like MOTLEY CRUE's "Looks To Kill".
"Goodbye Forever" is one of your typical Hair Metal ballads, but they don't quite pull it off like for instance POISON or GUNS N ROSES might have done. Luckily, after that follows a cool opening riff marking the intro of "Ride With Me". The rest of the song however is nothing very special. We've all heard it before by now.
"All I Need" makes for a jaunty tune, but nothing quite more than that. Probably fun to sing along with though. "Back To The Drive" displays the best opening riff and drumbeat on the whole album. With that one it finally gets a bit sturdier, but it might just be too little too late. They finish with "Bad Decisions", where the bass player can let himself go for a while, but that's about it. It's all a little old and we've sure heard it before. I expected more from a band with such resumées.
