Dead Shores Rising
Deserted Fear

One of Germany's finest old school Death Metal bands, DESERTED FEAR, have just released their brand new record entitled "Dead Shores Rising", via the legendary Century Media records. This is the band's third full-length studio effort, and yet I am almost certain they would agree it's their finest work so far. I actually interviewed the band's drummer, Simon Mengs recently on the site, where he answered some cool things about the brand new album and the band itself.
The record itself contains 13 tracks altogether, two of them being bonuses. The album starts off with a nice, slow, fade-in intro, which is kind of happy and hopeful, but it all depends on the listener's perception. Just like Simon said, their artwork showcases humanity struggling to reach a boat, which is a reference to us seizing to be so corrupt and destruction hungry. The intro itself is creepy, but it's far away from reaching the brutality of the rest of the tracks.
So, the second track "The Fall Of Leaden Skies" starts off with a nice, deep, yet pretty groovy riff. The vocals don't hesitate much, and fire off right at the beginning. They are pretty neat, enjoyable, brutal, and extreme. The whole atmosphere is influenced y Thrash, but it is still pretty old school Death oriented; just like such masters of the genre as: DISMEMBER, MORGOTH and ASPHYX.
The third, "The Edge Of Insanity", is a swift, brutal, and malevolent track. It is incredibly swift, but still immensely melodic, being that its old school-oriented; yet, I fully respect the mature approach to the modern sound - I'm glad the band is open to experimentation, unlike many. I like the reference to the band EDGE OF SANITY in the song's title, if there is one.
The next, fourth song, is entitled "Open Their Gates", and I must say that this is one hell of a brutal track; its heavier than the previous ones, catchy, with a nice rhythm, groove bombs, modern and old approaches to the sound. The overall atmosphere is incredible. "Corrosion Of Souls" takes a sharper approach when it comes to the riffs. It's so melodic that it reminded me a of the Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal scene. The growls and the screams are harmonic, everything is perfect from lyrical themes to the artwork, the secret messages, the production, and the atmosphere.
This is a great German Death Metal album that is sure will activate your nostalgia, but will still surprise you with its original mix of new and old Death Metal. Give it a blast - it's one of 2017's most epic albums in the genre!
