Desecrate The Faith

Released on November 18th by Comatose Music, the latest by Desecrate The Faith is simply called III. You can easily guess how it fits in to their discography. If I judge an album by its cover, pure Death Metal is what this seems to be. I just have to quote the first sentence of their press sheet, to set the mood, lol... "Row upon row they sit, bound and gagged, their hands nailed to the pews...", it goes on for awhile, but you get the idea of the theme we are about to be workingwith here. It should be a good time. Opposition and defiance define the purpose, a self described, demon possessed, torrent of blasphemy.
It seems like this will be an outright assault to our senses. Starting out with the deep growls that I expected, the howling lyrics are unrecognizable in the vocals, but it is a pounding grinder of a song. It sets the mood, I'm not even sure if words are needed, the music speaks for itself. I don't know what the hell he is saying, but the song is put together well. The madness continues with "Blood Scriptures", with the velocity increasing. It is a pretty intense song, probably about as fast and heavy as it can be in certain parts of this one. These guys have to be hard core live, I will have to do some further research for some live footage. They sound like a cloud pleaser. Four songs into it, it still sounds like the last three. No mercy, full speed ahead. The bloodbath continues.
"Upon A Slaughtered Clergy", sounds worth writing about, so I couldn't pass it up. I really wish that I had a lyric sheet though. Lol. I STILL don't know what the hell he is saying, but it really doesn't matter. Point taken. To hell with the church. "The Butchered Earth", has a nice riff and groove to it. Simple, but it works. All of these songs are pretty long, some drag out and get a little tiresome for me with this type of vocals, but that's my taste. I'm not sure if it is fair to say that it is bad. The music is good. It definitely all comes together nicely for what it is designed to be. There is a lot of technical musical talent in this group, no doubt. Typically after 8-10 songs I need a little bit more uniqueness from a vocalist to carry me through an entire album. I'm sure that this one will stir up a great mosh pit in a live setting, but I have heard similar music too many times before. For that reason I can't give it more than a seven.
