Perpetuation

Tech Death Metal: you are either addicted to or appalled by its complex riffs, its ruthless double bass kicks, and its demonic bellows. However, one cannot deny the great musicianship of the members of DERELICT, hailing from and making exemplary success in the Canadian Death Metal scene. Their newest album "Perpetuation" is a beast of an album forged by technical riffing mastery, merciless drum work, and vocals that derides the stupidity of humanity through forceful growls and powerful squeals.
The self-titled song was a great kick and introduces Eric Burnet as a very stylistic vocalist. In the opening songs especially, Burnet's vocal style reminded me of LAMB OF GOD, during the "Ashes Of The Wake" period. In this regard, "Intricate Decay" is one of the best songs on the album, as Burnet's vocals can climb to screeching heights and suddenly drop to profound lows that amplify the already intense instrumental production. "Iridium Layer" was deemed another favorite upon hearing the atmospheric harmonics of the guitars that resonated hints of eerie black metal. "Expiry" and "Emergence" not only bring forward a leviathan of Metal rage reminiscent of DYING FETUS, they also pay very intricate attention to musical detail, making this a carefully thought out piece of work.
Who says that structured compositions can't cause total chaos? In their newest work, DERELICT proves their capabilities as musical masters while maintaining the sheer brutality that is the epitome of all things Death Metal.
