Reactance Theory
D'Ercole

D'ERCOLE, from Cranston, Rhode Island, United States, is a new band for me, even though "Reactance Theory" is the eleventh studio album they have released in November 2025. And I must say that the melodic Hard Rock they play does have its merits, although I do feel that sometimes they are operating very close to the edge of Heavy Metal. As this is a three piece band that carries the name of the two brothers in the mix, you might conclude that they are the driving force behind it all. Well, they might be, but the real maestro within D'ERCOLE has to be Phil Vincent. He is the writer of it all except "Shadow Rider", which was co-written by Bruce Mee.
Now for a different matter. Who here remembers SANTERS? and if you do, how well do you like their most memorable and arguably best album "Racing Time"? well, if you are very positive about both questions, you're going to love "Reactance Theory", as throughout this whole D'ERCOLE album I just can't help but feel that this is a continuation of "Racing Time", only a tad heavier. The atmosphere as well as the guitar sound, but also the way the songs are structured are making me reminisce. On top of that you have the way the singing is brought to us, especially the harmony vocals. They aren't too polished, still have a bit of a rough edge, making it easy to recognise the different voices participating.
Listening to "Reactance Theory" is also making me a very happy Rocker because the songs all have that little bit of class that you expect from a band that has been going for some 15 years, making it even more remarkable that they have been able to produce 11 albums, including this one. It makes me wonder if D'ERCOLE has always been able to maintain such a high standard as they are reaching on "Reactance Theory". In the more than 51 minutes that the eleven songs rain down on me I just haven't been able to spot a weak point or tune. Whether they Rock hard or play a ballad, it all sounds rather good indeed.
When you read what I have put down in this review, you will realise that I really like what I am hearing D'ERCOLE play on "Reactance Theory". So much so that I have started the process as to find all their former releases as well. I don't know if they'll be able to come near what the band has achieved on "Reactance Theory", but I'm very keen to find out.
