It turns out that DENNIS DEVELIN has been in the Metal industry for years, this man doesn't stop like a rolling stone from one band to other, this energy bomb doesn't know rest. Finally we have the honor to listen to his 4th solo album "Tip of the Tongue". Imagine yourself a young Lemmy on a SINNER type of material. Yes, I would put Dennis music next to those legends. The influence is straight ahead 80s golden years of Heavy Metal with a fine melodic edge. The songs are very catchy, got the tightness and belligerence of ACCEPT. The first thing that I noticed from the first listening is that Dennis invested a lot in the production of the album. You can hear the liveliness of the music by its sound.
The album incorporates different Heavy Metal influences, or should I say the essence of the old school stuff. With songs like "Pussy as a Friend", Dennis spares no sense of humor and profanity. The album brings also a lot of fun with songs like "Ladies of the Eighties" that have a Rock N' Roll spirit in them. The album starts with the song "All you Got", I straight notice to the interest of how the song was written with all the melody parts and the guitar links that contribute the song. The song has a lot of energy, a driven Hard Rock banger, very heavy and you can sing along from top to bottom. "2805" is one of the best tracks here on the album, combining with a winning chorus. The guitars lines - clean guitar that gives you some peaceful atmosphere alongside the distorted tune with the keyboards lines is an immortal combination. The line "don't be afraid of life..." repeated over and over is the key line of the song that with a perfect melody, no wonder why it stuck to my head.
"MF Man" is a strong song with a twist, a typical Heavy Metal tune that suddenly in the middle change into a different segment with the lead guitar solo, brilliant thought. I mentioned before "Pussy as a Friend", fast Rockin' song in the veins of BONFIRE but with extra balls. "Never Let You Go" exhibit Dennis's softer side with a power ballad with a AOR touch by the keyboards touch. I wouldn't say that ballads are his strongest side but his voice reflects on rocking songs and on quiet as well. "Birds of Fire" shows us an interesting combination between Thrash Metal and old school Heavy Metal which turns out to be successful. The ending part when the background vocals enter gives it energy and roughness which fit the right mood of the song.
