DECRAPTED is a Death Metal band from Spain. "Bloody Rivers of Death" is the group's debut album, released by Xtreem Music on April 5, 2022.
To me, musically, this album features a mixture of Old-School Death Metal with a slight Brutal Death Metal edge. The riffs are simplistic and grooving and follow tight melodic structures, but have the SUFFOCATION-esque, hit-you-over-the-head-with-a-hammer feel to them. However, despite their simplicity, the riffs are not that memorable. In fact, this factor seems to be their downfall, as I find myself getting slightly bored listening to the riffs on this record.
In terms of the musicianship, there isn't much to say here. Dave Rotten's vocals are definitely brutal, but you don't really know what the hell he's saying at all. It seems like he's taking a page out of the Will Rahmer school of Death Metal vocals, which is most apparent on tracks like "Bloody Cave." As I mentioned previously, Vicente Payá's riffs, while having occasional interesting moments, are mostly plodding and dull. Being that Camilo Pirata is a session musician, his guitar solos are rarely featured throughout the record, but when they are, they are meandering, like on "Headless Haunting." They are, of course, chaotic, but unlike the chaos of solos by Kerry King or Trey Azagthoth, they feel somewhat manufactured as opposed to off-the-cuff. I will say, however, that Miquel Angel Riutort's drumming has its moments of brilliance, like on "Meat Truck." However, for the most part, he, like his bandmates, keeps up with the mindless groove that pervades this album, especially on "Forcefed Human Flesh."
Overall, I found this to be a fairly pedestrian release. There isn't really much that the band is offering in the way of boundary breaking, and even if they were going for a more old-school feel, they could've upped the pace a bit and maybe given it more of a thrashy edge. Instead, this record feels like knuckle-dragging to the extreme, and I, for one, am not a fan.
