Death Camp
Death Reich
When we speak about events from World War II, it pains inside of those who have a deeper understanding of the value of human life, and awakens the need to evade fascism at any cost. But people MUST keep talking about the horrors of those infamous days, must speak about the price that fanatic beliefs in moral values and empty national views can cost, especially when the death camps used to kill thousands of innocents (their only sin: to not fit in a pseudo-intellectual model, and no fascist can be considered intelligent, only an arrogant and mindless idiot, a tool to be used for an oppressive ending). And maybe the work of the Swedish quintet DEATH REICH can be used for it, as the name of their first EP shows: "Death Camp".
Their music is in a form of brutal and modern Death Metal, aggressive and nasty, but using a defined and clean sense to boost the aggressiveness. Sometimes as fast as a lightning, on others using a slower an oppressive expression, their musical work is filled with very good and extreme elements, nasty musical arrangements and an amazing energy that hooks the listeners easily. The production worked in a form to make things sound great, aggressive, defined, and with a musical impact that can make the ears of those that aren't used to extreme Metal ache. But it exposes their aggressive music in a form that everyone can understand.
"Death Camp" is a short, massive and fast song, filled with nasty and energetic arrangements (very good grunts and guitars, indeed); on "Hunger", a solid and paced set of tempos that aren't extremely fast, but keeps the musical slaughter in a great shape (and the bass guitar and drums really creates very good rhythmic contrasts). As anyone can think, "Fight Fire with Fire" is a version for an old METALLICA hit song from "Ride the Lightning" era, here in a brutal and even faster form (but it's amazing).
Maybe the first words of this review can give the readers a bad idea, but it's just a manifest of this writer, because the words 'death camp' awakens deep and sad remembrances into my heart (I read a lot about WWII, but when dealing with the Shoah, it pains me deeply), and DEATH REICH is a really great band, they need to release an album as soon as possible, and can keep our minds aware of the danger that fascism represents to the world. Oh, "Death Camp" is really a very good EP.
