DEAD TREE SEEDS is a French Thrash Metal band formed in 2009. After numerous lineup changes and lots of trials and tribulation, they have delivered their sophomore effort, "Push The Button". The original group had a focus on old school style, akin to the Big 4 of Thrash. The changes have brought about a shift and now they tend towards the more brutal end, seen in bands like KREATOR and SEPULTURA. "Push The Button" was released digitally om July 3, 2020 via M.U.S.I.C. Records and is set to release physically in October.
"Thrash Tales", an instrumental, leads off the album with a gentle rhythm to begin. Halfway through it turns into a twin guitar assault that lets you know this band has some serious musical chops to show off. The first 1:45 set the tone for the rest of the record. "Fangs Of The White Wolf" is the first track with lyrics and you hear the vocalist take on both clean and scream, both of which he handles with ease. Again, with individual and twin guitar work through the solo section, there is a distinct nod to old school NWOBHM with definite thrash attitude.
With titles like "Thru God For Vengeance" and "Enemies Of Rome", the images of epic tales and glorious battles lingers in the thoughts of the listeners. Both of those songs start with crushing power chords and pounding rhythms carrying the bottom end. "No Time To Complain" begins with a gloomy, single guitar intro that turns up the pace and the attitude like the launch of a roller coaster after it crests a hill.
"Push The Button" is another straight-forward thrasher that hits you between the eyes before the drop off of "The Way To Eternity", another instrumental that barely lets you catch your breath before "Abjection" again makes your pulse speed up. All ten songs on this record are well crafted, catchy thrasher tunes. None of them lack for much of anything. The solos are well-placed and fit the songs. The bass and drums are on time and on pace. This is a well-rounded band that can hook the listener with a catchy riff and solid wall of bass/drums.
DEAD TREE SEEDS are not a well-known band at this point, but they should be. They should be hitting the stage at festivals in Europe and touring clubs/mid-sized arenas in the United States with their peers. They may not start on the main stages, but should move there fairly quickly. These guys are ready to break through and make themselves known to the masses. All they need now is the tour that gives them the proper stage to show off what they can do.
