Dead Man's Hand

Well, I have to take a second to talk about the band name - DEAD MAN'S HAND. As a general public service announcement to any aspiring musicians, please, for the love of sanity pick a different name! Apparently this name is very popular, so be glad the research has been done for you here, because sifting through inaccurate info belonging to other bands was a headache.
Now to talk about this band. The smoothy groovy sound of opening track "Hangman" was an instant toe-tapper. Definitely fitting more into Rock than Metal, the mellow sound here was like a flashback to the 90s Pop/Grunge Rock scene. It definitely seems inspired by bands like NIRVANA, particularly with its rhythm line and synth vocals."Lock and Key" is more of a Grunge track that has some Groove mixed with a catchy chorus.
"Paint a Picture" is a mournful, angsty piece that sets a powerful backdrop with the great tandem vocal work of McGrew and Palmer. With a bit of Glam flare, "Veto" is fun track that I could imagine singing along with at a concert. "So What"is a blues-inspired track with a grinding sound and strong vocal presence. McGrew's vocals rise and fall, soft and lamenting one minute and then loud and raging the next. Taking things to another level,"Wash Away" is probably the best song on album. It is quieter than some of the other tracks but it has some great ups and downs that are nailed home by a catchy hook.
"Slide of Hand"is another decent entry with some interesting riffs, whilst "Beneath the Dirt" comes along with more of that familiar NIRVANA sound and mellow vocals. "Masquerade" has some funky distortion, which is its most distinct feature. The only other standout for me was the finale, "Not for Nothing", which is a groovy ballad that is drastically different from most of the album.
In all honesty, while "Till Karma Forgets" is a good album, it just didn't pack enough of a punch or bring enough to the table to really stick with me. By all means give the sample a listen and judge for yourself, but I won't be rushing to buy this one.
