DEAD END FINLAND is a Melodic Death Metal band from Helsinki, the capital of Finland and home for many other famous Metal bands. These guys shows once again that Finland is a country made for Metal and they have recently released their newest album "Inter Vivos" and thats what we are going to talk about. The opening song from the album is "Deathbed" and it starts out with cool keyboard sound and some electronic vibe as well. There are mixed up vocals, alternating from clean to guttural ones, which gave the song a good dynamic. The vocal lines from the chorus is really good and instrumental is great.
"Closer To Extinction" starts out heavier than the previous song and there's more use of guttural vocals here. There's something Epic on the chorus and I really liked how it sounds. They added a special part with a different mixing that felt like a radio kind of mix, which was really good idea as it gave the song a different ambiance. "Lifelong Tragedy" is a song that will make you start banging your head as soon as the first chords starts to sound. There's something that will make you "travel inside your mind" as you listen to the deep vocals and melancolic keyboard that creates a dark ambiance. I like the duet between both clean and guttural vocals as well. "Tightrope" has a cool futuristic keyboard and some heavy orchestrations. The guitar riffs here are pure groove and dark. I felt like I was at Dracula's castle when listening to this song.
"Dark Horizon" is definitely an inspiring song. There's a lot of good things here, such as the guitar works and the keyboards. The chorus is inspiring and this is probably one of the best songs on the album. "Dead Calm" is an instrumental song that have a beautiful keyboard on it. "War Forevermore" starts out with a tense keyboard and orchestration sound that is soon followed by heavy and dark guitar riffs. This song is Epic, but I think that the vocal choirs could have been on a higher volume here as the instruments seems to cover it a little bit. There's vocal part where it feels like the guy is expressing a really desperate feeling.
"My Pain" starts out with the keyboard already known here, but there's something different on the tempo of the song, which I find really good. There's a vocal part where the keyboard sounds like an old electronic song and it was a really good addition to the song. "Born Hollow" starts out fast, heavy and aggressive as hell. It has great guitar riffs and a beautiful keyboard melody. The clean vocals comes in and makes it a little bit calmer, but as soon as the guttural vocals hits you in right in the face, things starts to get pretty Metal again.
"In Memorian" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with a keyboard sound and I think that we could say that its a ballad with some heavy parts. There are a beautiful vocal work here and it was a great song to end the album. DEAD END FINLAND has written and released a great Melodic Death Metal album. There are a lot of keyboards, which is good, but I think that sometimes it kinda sounded the same. But in a general way, all the instruments were really well executed, the vocals are great and the production is really tight. I believe that it might be one of the best Melodic Death Metal releases from Finland this year.
