Kingdom of the Blind
De Profundis

Hard on the heels of their much acclaimed "Frequencies" EP, DE PROFUNDIS are back with their best work to date. "Kingdom of the Blind" opens up with "Overture", pretty standard death metal opening track, a spoonful of atmospheric moodiness that leads straight into "Kult of the Unorthodox". The first full song on the album is a bit of a beast! The band declare their intentions with roaring guitar licks and thunderous skin beating. Tom Atherton handles the strange timing rhythms very well, it is always nice to see drummers do something a bit less predictable.
"Illumination" is the third track on the album, this song showcases the musician's talents well and lends a spark of hope to the band's future. Unfortunately the album plateaus there, until "Beyond the Threshold" storms into life and aggressively orders you to give your neck muscles a well deserved workout, tis fucking hard to resist. Arran McSporran unleashes a sweet bass solo and the song gallops on into a guitar solo any band would be happy with. The odd timing signatures are back on this track too, sort of like the mighty MASTODON have been giving them tips. Probably THE stand out track of the album, certainly my favourite tune.
Though the album is good I still feel it is missing something, sure It has eerie vibes and haunting hooks, There are some parts that definitely should not to be listened to whilst driving, for fear of breaking a few speed limits. I am not a huge fan of the vocals on some of the tracks however, at one point I was honestly unsure as to whether or not he was singing or drowning in the blood of his victims!
If you appreciate the genre's of Technical, Progressive, Melodic Death Metal, Check them out, "Beyond the Threshold" will definitely make you a fan!
