Actually, it's considered to be fashionable to be retro. To be retro not only in clothes you can use, but in music you can make it. Good examples of it are Stoner Rock bands like QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and WOLFMOTHER had great influences in 70's bands like BLACK SABBATH in early years, DAVID BOWIE'S ZIGGY STARDUST and similar. Their song looks like you are listening in 70's band in all aspects you can imagine. And now, I'm listening the first EP from the British band called DARK SKY PARK, "Follow Me", which will be release it in 2016, January.
And I am left thanking God that is only 5 tracks! I really hate this style but I'll try to be a bit impartial and extract some cool things in their songs. The line-up consists of Debbie Bilson - she had a voice like a singer in a decadent cabaret. Her voice calls attention because is a pleasant voice, but in a wrong band. The band plays normally - they have talent, but I really can't like this style. The guitars by Ainsley Stones are heavy and dirty like if you are using an old amplifier. The drums and the bass - the kitchen - by respectively Hannah Jasper and Aidan Hall are simple, just to give weight in their songs. Well you cannot imagine a super bass or drum solo in Stoner Rock. You just make the basic.
For the style, the songs are super clichés, but if Stoner Rock is making success it means it have a lot of fans. For me is just boring and arrogant songs. All the songs had the atmosphere you are listening a band in a pub in 70's while you are drinking a beer alone thinking in sad things. The less boring song is "Lonely Girl" and for me, the highlight in the band is Debbie Bilson's voice and just all. Her voice mesmerizing you and make you take a chance to listen a bit more the songs, even you don't like the style - like my case.
If you like the style, it's clearly you will love DARK SKY PARK new EP. But if you don't take to listen this style, you will agree with me that "Follow Me" will be successfully deleted to your computer and nothing stay there with your preferred artists.
