DAME TU ALMA is a band that originates from Bern in Switzerland. The band name is Spanish and the literal meaning is Give Us Your Soul. They describe their style of music as Dark Cinematic Metal. I had to read an interview to find out who the members of the band are, and something is telling me that these aren't their real names, but of course I could be mistaken. And even though it might be fun for the audience and the band to have this kind of secrecy, for a reviewer it makes concocting a good story rather difficult. The fact that the band hardly has any history doesn't help either.
So, all I can do is refer to the music and to be quite frank; it's rather good! Their description of Dark Cinematic Metal does cover the heart of the matter on "Lead". But to be honest, it's not as dark as I'd expected or even hoped. That is probably why DAME TU ALMA don't wish to class their brand of music as Horror Metal. It is just that bit too defined, more thriller-like, if you will. It sometimes has those faux parts that sound a little happier, like in those thrillers, where you know that those so-called pleasant moment are a prelude to something more sinister.
The good thing about all of this is that DAME TU ALMA will keep you on your toes the whole time, you are just wondering whatever they will come up with next. And they don't disappoint, as the music is Heavy, hard hitting, but also very accessible, even in its darkness. The reason I call it that is due to the fact that the tempos used never go too fast or too slow, they are always within headbanging range. And they do use a lot of sounds underneath their own instruments. But then again, they would, otherwise they wouldn't be really cinematic, would they. I bet they can make a live show into a proper viewing spectacle. But, that doesn't help me when reviewing, because that's only speculation on my part.
What is a disappointment is that once you start listening to the album a few times in a row, the level of excitement starts dropping, and you are not as impressed as you were the first time you listened to "Lead". I feel that is an area that DAME TU ALMA needs to work on, as they certainly have the quality to pull it off, if they wish. This time, though, they haven't fully succeeded. It doesn't make this into a disappointing album as such, only not such an experience as I first felt it would be.
