The Worship: Orthoprax Satanism

Curse Upon A Prayer

This was a dreadfully evil and somber album that heightened both the despair of life with the anger of life…two things that if crashed together might indeed be a curse that you can never escape.

From Bandcamp, ““All is not lost, the unconquerable will, and study of revenge, immortal hate, and the courage never to submit or yield.” “Ortopraxia” is the first song. Violin notes lead in gently, but what follows is an aggressive and weighted sound, not without melody, however. It sinks down pretty quickly into the shadows…the ones that you don’t talk about, and somber tones envelope the listener. “Sulfurserpent” uses different points of attack that all have the same effect…one killing blow after another. The use of melody is still present, but outweighed by the aggressive nature of the vocals and the music.

“Blood Poetry” has a more even keeled delivery, but is still thick with somber sounds as well as the sounds of regret. It’s like they finally came to grips for what they lost, and it too much to bear. “A Heav’n of Hell” is a lengthier song that hangs in the balance between despair and anger, with neither side coming out as the victor. Leading into the half-way mark, the tables seem tipped in the realm of despair, but the anger comes roaring back. “I Enthrone You” is a short and fast three-minute blast of rage and hatred, accentuated by harsh vocals that never quit. “He That Eateth my Flesh” is the kind of song that will haunt you if you listen to it over and over again. The vocals tell a tale of torture in whispered tones, and the music is frail but so very dark.

The final song is divided into two parts. “The Worship I: Patior” is longest on the album, at over 10-minutes, and it wallows in darkness and loneliness the kind that you could only feel if you were the last soul wandering the earth after a massive natural disaster. The second part of the song is faster and more energetic, and it seems as though the album is on a crash course with destiny. Overall, this was a dreadfully evil and somber album that heightened both the despair of life with the anger of life…two things that if crashed together might indeed be a curse that you can never escape.
