Ex Cathedra
Creature
To fuse brutality with Progressive Rock and orchestral arrangements with extreme Metal genres can seem easy for many, but only those who try to work with such musicality can say how it's hard to be created. To be aggressive and avant-garde isn't easy as it can seem. And from France comes CREATURE, a band with only one member with a different and hard to understand work, as can be heard on "Ex Cathedra". This album fuses a form of Black/Death Metal with many types of musical elements, from Progressive Rock to Jazz, passing by some Industrial Rock outfit in many moments, and many others that are truly difficult to name. And such insight turns the songs of "Ex Cathedra" difficult to be assimilated, but it doesn't mean that it's not good. It is, but it takes time and many times listening to it to be understood fully.
The production of the album is in a good level. It's not perfect, because some elements sound harsh and crude beyond the point. The keyboards are fine, but the guitars and bass guitar are sounding with poor tunes. Some adjusts can be done on the next time, but for now, it's good. 10 long and hard to swallow songs waist for the listeners, but it's not possible to not praise songs as "Fugue en Sol Mineur" (a fine mix of brutality with silk Progressive/Jazz Rock parts), ""zÑ5♦mı" (very good shrieks, indeed), the chaos made music called "L'odyssée Hyperpropulsée", "Involution - Expectations" (a fine Progressive Metal set of melodies on the beginning with charming clean vocals, before becoming brutal and technical, with very good guitars), the bitter aggressiveness of "Neo Habilis", and the creative arrangements on "Atlantis". These are the ones that make "Ex Cathedra" worthy of a careful listening.
If the band can use a better sound quality in the next time, matching with its musical ideas, maybe a legend is to be born in the figure on CREATURE.
