Destiny Of The Gods

Americans COVEN 13 are a Doom Metal that come from Detroit, they were originally formed in 1985 releasing their debut album "Worship New Gods" and later on split up to reunite in 2011, releasing this year their sophomore album "Destiny of the Gods".
Musically speaking they are an unconventional type of doom with faster songs reminiscent of early classic Metal like JUDAS PRIEST, and in the song "Witches Kiss" they have a sort of DEEP PURPLE influence with the use of keyboards. Lyrically wise expect sword and sorcery type of songs with influences coming from Norse mythology.
Reading other reviews about this album what stood out the most was that the singer usually received bad reviews and was perceived as a turnoff from an otherwise flawless record, I would had to agree in part with this. It is true that David Landrum's vocals are an acquired taste and takes a while to get into, but after a few listens I got used to him and found the record quite enjoyable.
All in all this certainly isn't a contender for the best of 2013 but is neither is the worst of this year list, this is a good album and it has some decent stuff here if you can get used to singer.
