Counterparts - Nothing Left To Love album cover

From Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, melodic Hardcore band COUNTERPARTS are here with their sixth studio album titled "Nothing Left To Love" via Pure Noise Records. Formed in 2007, with a nearly completely different line up, this band has had a very good run with success over the past thirteen years doing everything from multiple tours, festivals, to local shows, with no inclination of any slowdown.

The first track on the record is "Love Me" and to me it is just an introductory track to get you acquainted with the band and what their sound is like before the album opens up with "Wings of Nightmares". The melodic intro quickly changes to heavy hard hitting guitars, full of pinch harmonics and distortion, but changes back into melodic and heavy as the song progresses. "Paradise and Plagues" dips more into the Metalcore type of sounds and vibes but the vocals still stay hardcore and are delivered nearly flawlessly. "Separate Wounds" begins with a very slow and gloomy introduction but then catch you by surprise when the instruments and vocals enter. The lead guitarist throws in tons of pinch harmonics and harmonics in the verse behind the rhythm guitarist and it fits very well.

"Your Own Knife" picks up the speed a bit in the album and just keeps you moving through the entire thing. The vocals are full of energy and passion from the vocalist in a way that makes you feel like you're at one of their shows. "Cherished" begins with a catchy guitar riff that repeats itself as the vocals enter and continues with a lot of alternate picking. "Imprints" has a chorus and bridge that you won't forget and picks back up with the signature melodic style that they have and mixed with the guitar pauses throughout, it all eventually blends together to give you that hardcore genre music feel. "Nothing Left to Love" is the final track on the record and it begins with an ambient guitar accompanied with drums in the background. The melodic vocals are packed with emotion that gives this album a proper sendoff once it comes to a close.

Overall, "Nothing Left To Love" still keeps the same COUNTERPARTS style that everybody loves. A great blend of hardcore and Metalcore mixed with aspects of Djent is what I believe makes this album. Even after over a decade of their music they are still a staple in the metal scene and they continue to push out albums that top the one before. Go out and purchase "Nothing Left To Love" via Pure Noise Records.
