Blood Incantation
Cosmophage

Cosmophage is a Brazil death metal band (previous name Utterance). The EP: Blood Incantation is the first as Cosmophage with a new vocalist, Diogo Dantas. The band plays a more US inspired death metal, I heard this band before as Utterance, the style was more melodic and did have a cleaner production. But focus on Cosmophage. Brazil Death Metal is known, for a pretty high quality, and the instrumental opening track /intro "Arrival at Aphotic Depths" is a pretty evil one. A hint of what to come. "Sidereal Malignancy" gives us the first taste of the new vocalist Diogo Dantas. He has a deeper growl, and the guitar sound reminds me of Morbid Angel and the album, Altar Of Madness.
The feeling of underground kicks in. And when I check up the lyrics, I see that they have done a good work. I think those guys has a H.P. Lovecraft inspiration. "Sidereal Malignancy" tells me that we are in for an old school death metal EP. "Decaying Entropy" is a technical track. I did talk about early Morbid Angel, and we really get it on this track. Rhythm changes, a lot of it. And the technical work with the music, tells me that those guys are for real. They keep the red line, and the track stands out. "Devourment of the Ur-Plagued" has a cosmic haunted death metal theme. And once again we are in for a technical track, but still, (for us who like this kind of music) a wicked melody.
There is so much talent in this band, they must practice a lot, not easy death metal. "Precognition into the Iris" another short instrumental track, makes me wonder if Cosmophage, uses those instrumental tracks, to create an atmosphere of both cosmos and evil. They actually work like a prelude, to what they try to create on this EP. "Precognition into the Iris" could be in a movie. "Inner Planes (of Disfigured Entities)" is the last track out, on this EP, and longest track. And for me the best track. A long track (6 minutes mark), doing this kind of music, is not easy.
You must have a lot of skills, so it not becomes boring. But Cosmophage can handle it, and they do it good. So much going on, but like all tracks on this EP, the red line is there. And the lyrics, that this band have, is on high level. And I hope they do an album and aim for those longer tracks. There is so much talent, the band is tight, they know how to play this music.
