COLD SHOT (ex-SHARK TEAM) was one of the many talented Melodic Metal outfit that were burgeoning and that were in a overnight hype ruling the famous Sunset Strip area in the late 80's, almost like a magical spontaneous generation around The Roxy and The Whisky a GoGo. COLD SHOT 's expectations were very high, as they had everything set to the max to conquer the world and they were more than ready to be the next big thing...Alas the Seattle nightmare was about to start. The American label Eonian Records, is specialized in Paleontological research for Hair Metal bands that were buried deep in the mud, since the Grunge tsunami disaster of the early 90's...Like a Jurassic park for the extinguished Aquanet / Spandex species.
The main meritorious goal of this small label is to resurrect each and every recording lost in the vaults worthy to be published and giving a new chance for those forgotten gems to shine again, no matter how many times those old recordings have languished in the unreleased shelf purgatory. The Eonian's holy task is to restore under the most professional process, those obscure Hard Rock relics and to give finally much attention to those tapes with an intensive care, focusing to the smallest details in order to raise up with utter respect -but under the most attractive outline- their original potential.
This fantastic treatment was employed once again to revitalized and enhance this album originally recorded for Virgin Records back in 1988, now it's time for justice to finally reign, and with the publishing of this hidden pearl of American Hair Metal simply titled "Cold Shot"...But you know it perfectly: There is no justice in the world.
Each song is filled with hooks and sing along lines, the sound of the band is in the exact style of CINDERELLA or GREAT WHITE precisely crafted in the archetypal fashion of the L.A. style with a focus on the simple yet groovy riffage, blessed by a instant hit songwriting gift and embellished under a Blues infused guitar method, the whole dominated by a big mouth frontman with a ferocious hoarse set of pipes in an high pitch mode.
Best tracks are easily the opener "Juicy Lucy" and the energetic "Higher" those were recorded for the soundtrack to Brad Pitt's first indie movie titled "Across the Tracks", they were indeed so close to succeed and reach second knife stardom.
To be totally honest, today COLD SHOT is mostly recommended to the Hair Metal nostalgics and 80's Metal experts, indeed even if the restoration mastering was well done the sound is still a little dated and the enjoyable gimmicks seems a little worn out in 2014, but as far as i'm concerned, it was a rejuvenating listening experience... Anyway kudos to Eonian Records for having the guts to fight tooth and nails for the glorious memory of this now classic genre.
