Children Of Bodom - Skeletons In The Closet album cover

Skeletons In The Closet. Right. I'm going to be blunt and I'm going to be short with this one.  There's nothing cool as skeletons in it and it should remain inside the closet, pun intended. This is a collection of various covers that C.O.B. has done since the early steps of their career. Covering a range from Pat Benatar to SLAYER, from Kenny Rodgers to SEPULTURA and even that hideous can of vomit Britney Spears, this is a collection that's certain to cover musical tastes of all flavors.
Unless you already like the original songs that is; or the original songs are too hideous to like no matter how much grunts or guitars you add to them like the aforementioned pop puke-bucket. To be honest I like quite few of the originals included in this collection, even some of the non metal ones. But listening to some of the covers I could think of nothing less that sacrilege, heathens and holy shit what the hell is this crap??.
All the covers are loaded with typical C.O.B. keyboards, guitars, everything that might sound good on one of their own songs. Here the vocals and the music make it too much; they add too many elements that actually take away from the song than adding. Pretty much every song in this album suffers from the same thing, whether it's pop, rock, metal or country. Yes, country, if you ever wondered how a Swedish Death Metal band would sound with it, your search is over just from the opening track.
I don't consider CHILDREN OF BODOM as a band that has something special to say with their sound nor I appreciate bands that try to gain attention with songs people have already loved and thus aim for sure money. If instead of the title they chose, they had something like Ridiculous Fun Collection, Buy It for your Laughs, I could possibly see it in a more positive way. Hell, even if it was from a band that hates Metal and want to stand our as a bunch of comedians, even that would make more sense for such a release. When other bands have in many cases successfully delivered a cover of a well-known song, no matter what were the reasons for doing it, at least it was obvious that they admired the original artist. Here we have a band that decided to put in a C.O.B. grinder different styles of music simply because the songs are so famous and people will be at least curious to listen. Or they thought their sound is that awesome that we would really give a shit on their point of view for these songs...right...
Overall, I'm trying really hard to find a reason to buy this album if you're not a C.O.B. fan but I can't find any. I've rarely heard any covers that were actually better or offered something different than the original; and these songs tend to attain legendary status. This is not an exception, let alone 17 of them. Steer clear unless you want to own everything your favorite band has ever released (given your favorite band is C.O.B.).
