Chest Rockwell - Laugh And The World Laughs With You album cover

Alright, so I'm all about experimentation and finding a unique sound. I think there are far too many bands out there who all sound the same. I am glad that CHEST ROCKWELL are a band with enough balls to try to be different. Of course, the downside of being different is that not everyone is going to dig your music. In this case, I just could not get into it.

Basically this band is a kind of weird Prog Rock/Radio Rock/Experimental sounding group from Bowling Green, Kentucky. That description makes it sound pretty cool, but for the most part I was disinterested in it. Some parts are kind of cool, but most of it was just flat, and kind of lame. The song "Ultimo Hombre" was the only thing on this EP I liked save for some of the guitar work on "Hogwash" but that was it. If the entire EP sounded like "Ultimo Hombre"; I would probably dig it. But it was just that one song.

I mean, I have to recommend this to anyone who wants to hear something different. It's pretty affordable so I say go for it if you're really looking for something unique. However, if you're looking for something that really rocks; I'd recommend saving your money and getting something else. Maybe that PSYCHOLLYWOOD record; that rocks. This is just kind of a flat sounding; trippy-but-not-really thing. The guitars and bass are a little low in the mix, and I found the vocals to be kind of lame. So proceed with caution; maybe you'll dig it, maybe you won't. I didn't.
