Chaosfear - Be the Light in Dark Days album cover

To make Metal in Brazil is a very hard thing to do. If you obey the models that are established (and erode) by time, maybe the fans can support you; if not, maybe you'll play for a few people. But it doesn't mean that the creative Brazilian bands will accept the rules of the game. No, they prefer to rewrite them all, if it's needed. And CHAOSFEAR, a quartet from São Paulo, is a Brazilian institution when the word 'creativeness' is spoken, as "Be the Light in Dark Days" states.

Well, they can be labeled as a Thrash Metal band with modern experimental aspects, using different influences from many Metal genres (as melodies from traditional Heavy Metal, blast beats from Death Metal, Industrial Metal arrangements, and even Progressive melodic voices), and some touches from outer musical genres (maybe influences from Post Punk and Progressive Rock, especially from some keyboards parts). Yes, their musical work is technical, but solid as a rock and easy to be assimilated by the senses. Marco Nunes (bass guitarist and keyboards' player) produced and mixed the album, having Paulo Anhaia on the mastering, creating a solid and clean sonority, but that allows the band to express itself on an aggressive and experimental form. Yes, the result is really very good.

The 7 songs of the album are equally excellent, but for a first time on their work, the better ones to start with are "Be the Light in Dark Days" (a Groove/ThrashMetal song with very good Crossover traces, with a strong and solid work from the drums, and where Murillo Leitte from GENOCÍDIO and Letícia Helena appears on vocals as guests), "A New Life Ahead" (an abrasive slow paced tempo song that shows a strong aggressive impact, with some oriental melodies on the keyboards' parts), "From No Past" (another set of Groove/Thrash Metal influences can be heard, but with fine clean Progressive vocals in the vein of BORKNAGAR in some parts, and with amazing guitar riffs, solos and duets), "The Hand That Wrecks the World" (the sound massacre keeps on, with very good keyboard and guitars, and a solid playing from bass guitar). On the second time, the entire album can be heard without problems.

"Be the Light in Dark Days" comes to show that it can be one of the finest releases from Brazilian bands from this year, and CHAOSFEAR shows that deserves a lot of respect (and applause, of course).
