Death...The Final Frontier
Centenary
There are moments when Metal fans deal with albums that are really good, even not presenting something really new. Yes, the matte is those albums when a band is just traditional in many aspects of their work, and they're not trying to reinvent the wheel, but it's truly good. That's the case of the North American quintet CENTENARY, as can be heard on "Death...The Final Frontier", their latest release.
Their musical work is based on the Old School Death Metal from the second wave, the sound of the late 90's/early 90's, when giants as DEATH, BOLT THROWER, DISMEMBER, ENTOMBED, DEICIDE and others were just beginning their careers. They're traditional and brutal, and are proud of being in such way. But even without presenting anything new, they are pretty good and show a musical personality that can be sharped in a better way in the future. But it's good. The production of the album was done in a way to preserve the old ways. So be prepared to face something similar to what the names written above did on the past: raw, straight and brutal. But of course they did things in a way that is defined and anyone can understand their musical expressions.
The jigsaw fast guitar riffs of "Entangled in Entrails", the brutal and simple rhythmic work shown on "Liquefied Rot" (good presence of bass guitar and drums, indeed), the brutal approach of "Tower of Excarnation" (very good contrasts between growls and snarling screens), the bitter slow tempos of Death Metal procession called "Ceaseless Astral Dirge", the fast and short song called "Malicious Symbiosis" (from where the early Hardcore influences that are in the roots of Death Metal arise), and "Slaves from the Grave" are the best cuts for begin with this bloody Death Metal slaughter.
CENTENARY is just beginning their career (this is their second album), so be prepared, because "Death... The Final Frontier" seems to be the second chapter of a new Death Metal massacre!
