With all due respect to those who have the original versions of "Bestial Devastation" and "Morbid Visions", if you are like me, the only reason you have the originals is because you feel the need to make sure you have all the relevant releases of the band is question. In this case it is SEPULTURA, a Brazilian band that made furious Thrash Metal with some Death and even Black Metal influences thrown in left right and centre. At least, that's what they did when they started out.

"Bestial Devastation" actually was the very first EP that SEPULTURA threw at the world in 1985, but for most of us it wasn't really being noticed, that is, until the band released "Beneath The Remains" in 1989. That was their breakthrough, and also the first available music of SEPULTURA with a proper production. Because I have to be frank, the sound on the original recordings of "Bestial Devastation" and "Morbid Visions" are very poor indeed. As if they were recorded in a tin can.

The Cavalera brothers are together again, and they realised that those two are musically sound enough to grant them the opportunity to be rerecorded, and now with a production that would fit the music and the current times. And if your question is if I feel they have succeeded, then my answer has to be a full resounding YES! Now you can hear what they are playing, what they are singing/shouting. And quite honestly, how good musician these two brothers really are.

As they are no longer part of SEPULTURA, they have opted to call the band CAVALERA. Indeed, without the CONSPIRACY, although that still is the place to go if you wish to find them on the net. I have always thought that the music on "Bestial Devastation" was sub-standard at best, but after listening to the EP a few times, I have come to realise that if this would have had a proper production from the word go, SEPULTURA would have conquered the Thrash Metal community an awful lot earlier. Yes, even with the rickety pronunciation of the vocals, like on the original release, they could, would and should have been recognised as the absolute force the later became. I for one am glad that the CAVALERA brothers have opted to renew the life on "Bestial Devastation". Oh, just a warning, the review of "Morbid Visions", released on the same day (13th of July 2023) is also by me, so if you read similarities, you know why.
