Left For Dust
Caboose

I am like a chameleon when it comes to the music I like. I range from Glam Rock to Melodic Rock to Heavy Metal to Death Metal. Even Lo-Fi and Industrial Rock and Metal will rock my boat. As well as Doom Metal or good Stoner Rock/Metal. In this review we are talking about the latter, which is coming from a band called CABOOSE. WE have a band in our country The Netherlands with that name, but they play Party Music. No, these are bonified Swedes and they hail from Stockholm. They play pure Stoner Rock/Metal and have released their debut album “Left For Dust” on 21st of March 2025 and therefore given us just under 30 minutes of enhanced entertainment. Only having been together since late 2022, they have been able to write nine songs that portray their feelings on life and matters in general. The Stoner Rock/Metal they play is very straight forward and without any frills, fillers or breaks that could put you of the scent.
What I do have to mention is that if you would like a comparison to any of the earlier bands playing Stoner Rock/Metal you will undoubtedly come across the names of TROUBLE and MONSTER MAGNET, and although the young guns of CABOOSE aren’t anywhere near the quality of those bands (yet?), they have that really rough and ready sound that also fits the peers mentioned. Plus, they have the atmosphere just right. Down, dirty and rough around the edges. But hey, they have other irons in the fire on “Left For Dust”, so get ready for a big surprise; the way the vocals are recited instead of sung reminds me a lot of how they were used by Jess Cox on the “Wild Cat” debut album of TYGERS OF PAN TANG. And I have to admit, Dante Lindström has the ability to make them work like that just fine.
If only he would improve his pronunciation, you would actually feel that CABOOSE is from either the UK or USA, but it is what it is. What also could do with some improvement is learning to write songs that stay embedded in people’s brains a little longer . now they are just too shallow, allowing our minds to forget about them as soon as they are finished. And that is a real pity, as I feel that CABOOSE has all they need to grow into a real force in the Stoner Rock/Metal field. Let’s just hope that “Left For Dust” is just a first step in that direction. I for one am rooting for them.
