BUTCHER has been around in one form or another since 1982. They evolved from three different versions of a band called "COVEN" and then finally changing their name to "BUTCHER" in 1991. I honestly don't know where to start, but that has never stopped me before. Please visit their myspace page and get a good look at the band members, because if I had to, then so do you! Anyway, the songs are a bit too simple. Many are just the name of the song repeated several times as the chorus, and the production is awful. It took them four years and this was the best they could come up with. The playing isn't that bad. The songs are mostly mid tempo, nothing too slow or fast. The song "Battleaxe" is a good song. I think they put the most effort into this one song. After reading their bio sheet from Inferno Records I believe they would try to sell snake oil to those with a terminal illness. I am not so sure that great production values would help at all. The main problem here is that some of the songs are just too basic in structure. The male lead singer is awful. The female lead singer has various vocal ranges. I believe she should have been given the lion's share of the vocal duties.

Remember, you need to listen to the song "Silence" after you have visited their myspace page, not before. This song is so out of place with the rest of the music that it seems like a totally different band, and since this album took four years to record, perhaps it was.
The acoustic guitar is jarring after so much distortion that we all know as the basis for heavy metal. This really does sound like self financed album recorded in a mobile studio (A van perhaps). Due to the terrible vocals and the long time between starting and stopping and then starting up again with the recording process, there really is no cohesion to the songs.

Another annoying thing is the pick scrapes on guitar, but once the male vocals start up again, you will be wishing for more pick scrapes instead Overall, I would skip this if I were you. There are much better releases to spend your money on. Bottom line, avoid buying this album if you value your money.
