Chronicle Of A Shipwreck

Born Divided

It doesn’t matter whether BORN DIVIDED plays fast and furious, slow and deliberate or is hovering somewhere in between, everything on “Chronicle Of A Shipwreck” is as it should be.

BORN DIVIDED is a Canadian Progressive Melodic Death Metal from Quebec City. After releasing their debut album "Impending Doom" in 2022 they now feel that the Metal world is ready to accept their second adventure, which they named "Chronicle Of A Shipwreck". I am afraid that I have to admit to not having heard of BORN DIVIDED before now, so that gives me the chance to look at them with a fresh look. And first off, I need to put your mind at ease, as the combination of the Progressive, the Melodic and the Death Metal parts work just fine with these Canadians. And, as usual, the quality of what you are being treated to for 43:31 minutes is certainly above average, that is sure. I just don't understand how all these great bands are creeping up in the great big monster of a country, and they all have that kind of Extreme Metal edge, plus they all sound bloody good as well. I don't care if you listen to bands like KATAKLYSM or RUSH, or anything in between, they all sound like a million dollars (in any currency!). You can safely add BORN DIVIDED to that list, as the band has a knack for writing songs that are Heavy, Intense, but also interesting and even addictive. Instrumentally you simply can't fault what these guys are doing. They all play their "Chronicle Of A Shipwreck" music effortlessly and make it sound as simple as they learned to this as a child. What's more, they are able to make sure that the vocals that are used fit the music that the proverbial glove. Not one sound is out of sync or out of place. It doesn't matter whether BORN DIVIDED plays fast and furious, slow and deliberate or is hovering somewhere in between, everything is as it should be. And no, that doesn't mean that "Chronicle Of A Shipwreck" is a clinical experience, as the production has several levels. In my ears the producers, who are BORN DIVIDED themselves, have done an outstanding job at capturing their sound. "Chronicle Of A Shipwreck" is as dirty as allowed, but also as clear and transparent as desired. It gives you as a listener the advantage that you can distinguish everything that is being played, while simultaneously making it possible to actually enjoy what is coming out of your speakers. And that, my friends, is the real treat on "Chronicle Of A Shipwreck". Now there just needs to be a label that has the guts to sign BORN DIVIDED.
