Bastardizing the Purity
Blasphamagoatachrist
The beginning of the 90's saw the invasion of the SWOBM, of bands coming from countries that had little or no tradition in Metal. From Canada came BLASPHEMY, a band deeply influenced by SARCÓFAGO and a similar work to BEHERIT from Finland, but being older. Besides the little commercial success, the quartet has a cult status until this day, and in all senses BLASPHAMAGOATACHRIST can be said as an offspring of the Canadian quartet, because it's the feeling you have after hearing "Bastardizing the Purity".
The quartet is an international effort, with two Brazilian members (both from GOATPENIS) and two from Canada (one of them is Nocturnal Grave Desecrator and Black Winds, BLASPHEMY's vocalist, what reinforces the resemblance between the two bands). It's that brutal and 'hardcorized' form of Death/Black Metal, with aggressiveness flowing from the speakers, and no goal unless to make the ears bleed and shake your heads. Similarities with BLASPHEMY and GOATPENIS can be heard, but it's a brutal battering ham of aggressiveness that will nail the fans of such genre of Black/Death Metal. The production of the album is that raw and putrid sound that was usual in the 90's, and besides distant from the filthy that wouldn't allow the listener to understand what is being played, it is a part of the musical concept of the band, or translated in few worlds, it's big and massive 'fuck you' from the quartet to everyone.
The very good iron guitar riffs heard on the slow parts of "Bastardizing the Purity" and "Black Nuclear Shadows", the shrapnel rhythmic work heard on "The Final Blood Orgy", the bloody and filthy puke of "Genocide Evocation" (the grunted vocals used in the slower parts are a good strategy), and the oppressive shocking aggressiveness of "Fire Demons of Blokula" and "Evil Revelation" can be said as their best shots.
For those that are waiting for a new BLASPHEMY's release or have deeper love for names as old BEHERIT, GOATPENIS and AMPÜTATOR, "Bastardizing the Purity" is a very good release, and you'll fall in love with BLASPHAMAGOATACHRIST.
