Black Tongue - The Unconquerable Dark album cover

Experimentalism seems to be the keyword in Metal sometimes. Yes, due this factor, many of modern Metal styles as we known were born, so we can think that when a band is on a studio on rehearsals, as they fuse the elements from each individual member into something, of course something new can be born. And sometimes, names of BLACK TONGUE arise from the cauldron of different musical influences. And "The Unconquerable Dark" is something really new, different, weird in some moments, but very good.

Imagine a fusion of Sludge Metal slow tempos with almost Death Metal and Hardcore vocals, along with MASTODON feeling and some of MESHUGGAH earlier guitar riffs. Yes, it really seems to be impossible to be done, but they did, and this album's songs are the proof that you can still be creative into Metal music (beside some empty Old Skulls guys with empty heads will cry out loud that it's impossible, and that the best of Metal was already done on the 80s).

The album was produced by the band itself along with Jesse Kirkbride, and the result is a quality of sound heavy, bitter and ferocious, but with a clear and understandable sound. And the artwork from Kevin Sarafin is very, very good, creating a clear and good idea of how their music sounds.

Musically, we can point of some of their songs as their finest moments, as the brutal and bitter "In The Wake Of The Wolf" (some incredible and nasty guitar riffs), the thunderous "Young Gloom" (fine and good harsh vocals filling the entire song) "Prince Of Ash" and the good work from bass guitar and drums, and "I'm So Tired Of Sighing, Please Lord Let It Be Night" that has some pretty good rhythmic changes and a strong and oppressive feeling.

Powerful, heavy and bitter is their music, so get it!
