A great part of so-called Metal Punk scene is composed by failed copies of bands from the 80's, guys that refuses to understand that they'll never be a new WARFARE, TANK, VOIVOD, HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST, VENOM or SODOM, and so on, can't give continuity to their past works. But there are those few names that make such genre worthy of being heard. And the Canadian mass killers trio BLACK PESTILENCE is one of them, and "Hail the Flesh" is here to crush all the clones under their boots!

The main feature that astonishes the listeners is that they aren't another '80's wannabe", but even bearing influences from the past, they're building their music on their own, never trying to be anyone else then themselves, And such ideas creates a crushing and energetic form of music, filled with Death Metal and Black Metal influences from the past, but with a modern and savage approach. It's alive, furious, and really great!

Another great point of "Hail the Flesh" resides on its sonority. The band isn't trying to copy old sonorities of the 80's, are trying to do another "Obsessed by Cruelty" or "Apocalyptic Raids" or anything like that. Their music sounds organic and nasty, but with a modern care that allows it to gain weight and aggressiveness that isn't usual for Metal Punk bands. Maybe some producers and musicians can learn a lot with Sacha Laskow (the album's producer, mixer and the one who did the mastering).

When the music starts to play, it's an amazing rush of energy that is unstoppable, as "Hail the Flesh" (a brutal and fast song with very good guitar riffs and nasty vocals), "Spurn All Gods" (a massive crushing energy, fine and good bass guitar and drums playing, and hooking chorus), "Hellfire" (a Thrash/Death Metal "Motorheadian" approach can be heard), "True to the Dark" (a vicious and brutal song, filled with fine bass guitar arrangements and blast beats from drums), "Godless" (if one can stand stopped on the place, that one is dead, because it's impossible to not shake the head savagely to its nasty guitar riffs and solos), and "My Will to Power" (a drilling Thrash/Punk Metal song, with that raw musical arrangements that hooks in the fans) will crush your spine on the first visit on their work. On the second, "Hail the Flesh" will become one of your favorite albums for this year.

After being slaughtered by such good musical work, it's not a sin to say that "Hail the Flesh" can be labeled as a compendium of Metal Punk, a way to play the genre. And BLACK PESTILENCE is a PhD on such a matter, so learn with them, all clones of the world.
