Terra

Black Magic Tree

BLACK MAGIC TREE has the capability to write songs that come from listening to a lot of different bands that have coloured the Rock scene throughout the decades, and they have made it into a beautiful melting pot on “Terra”.

Stoner Rock/Metal band BLACK MAGIC TREE are from Berlin in Germany, although on their Bandcamp site they say that they play Heavy Rock/Heavy Psych/Heavy Blues Rock 'n' Roll. On 28 November 2025 they have  released their debut album "Terra" through Majestic Mountain Records. and to be quite frank, this is an album with so many faces that it will have you on your toes for quite some time. But whether you name what BLACK MAGIC TREE does Stoner Rock/Metal or even Heavy Rock/Heavy Psych/Heavy Blues Rock 'n' Roll, the description fits. It is mind-expanding in atmosphere and experience, which is a very nice change from all the pure Heavy Metal bands.

We fly through the golden decades of heavy rock, steal from the best and prepare an eclectic, contemporary and catchy riff menu for hungry hard rockers. We are the time parrots. That is exactly what the band states on their Bandcamp site. And that is how they sound. They are acting like a musical sponge. They have soaked up a lot of influences that span the last six decades and have tried to give it all space and time in order to rearrange it in such a way that they use their acquired knowledge into their own musical style. And it doesn't matter if they are going faster or being mellow, like in "Grace", what they do just fits. But, let me warn you, it took me several listening sessions before all the pieces started slotting into the right places, and the music on "Terra" really began to make sense. So, I urge you as a listener, take your time to get to know what BLACK MAGIC TREE stands for. I'm glad I did.

Because there is no escaping the fact that all the songs on "Terra" are built up and contain several layers. If you think you know a song after one listen, prepare to be amazed at how much more you will discover the second, third, fourth or even every time you listen after that. My favourite song on the album has to be "Chasing The Light", as the light-hearted approach reminds me of the Glam Rock bands of the seventies, as well as Hagar era MONTROSE. And there you have it, BLACK MAGIC TREE has the capability to write songs that come from listening to a lot of different bands that have coloured the Rock scene throughout the decades, and they have made it into a beautiful melting pot on "Terra".
