Talented Italian singer and multi-instrumentalist, Andrea Bruzzone debuts with the Avant-Garde Metal project BEKOR QILISH and an album, "Throes Of Death From The Dreamed Nihilism," already particularly mature, complex and layered. Short but full of contents and inventiveness, BEKOR QILISH's "Throes Of Death From The Dreamed Nihilism" is a veritable whirlwind of oblique riffs and complex rhythms that often dilute metal violence into ethereal and hypnotic melodies; an album that expertly blends the most bizarre and intellectual extreme metal with cosmic-inspired atmospheric sounds. The album contains six tracks.

"Cryptic Hatred" leads off the album. It's a dissonant combination of rattling riffs, harsh vocals, and seemingly chaotic rhythms. Don't even try to count the meter here...your head will wind up breaking down on you. Towards the end, the atmospheric melodies come out from hiding. "Self-Destructed Destruction" begins with slower, weighted accents and some floating melodies amidst the angry harsh vocals. The sound has a sharp change at the half-way mark, with running rhythms and tight bass work. "Verminous Barrier" is a much shorter song with about as much intensity as you could pour into a two-and-a-half-minute song. The main riff hits on many accents, striking you repeatedly.

"Ocean of Malice" begins with heavy and dark atmospheric tones. The guitars screech like a wave of warning, but you are not prepared for the onslaught that will follow. Keyboards make a swirling sound that travels all around you at the same time, while the drums roll forth at impossible speeds, like a machine gun going off at 100 rounds per second. "Total Infection" is another highly technical song with about as much feeling as a serial killer mowing down his victims with one strike of his machete after another. Your pleas are totally impervious to him. The bass work here follows no conventions. The atmospheric tones leading to the end give you just the briefest pause.

"Wretched Dawn" closes the album; a seven-minute beast. As the song moves forward, the soldiers bunker down and take their timing picking off the opposing side one by one. The final four minutes are a bit perplexing, as the encompass many of the atmospheric tones into one long stretch. Overall, although the album was very skillfully put together in many aspects, I am wondering who the intended audience would be. This probably resides on the very fringe of what can be considered as niche Metal, though I certainly appreciate the masterful musicianship, and yet another fascinating and unique offering from I,Voidhanger Records.Purchase Link:
