Thrash, prog, death, heavy hardcore, everything in the melting pot of the Atlanta five piece based band. Nevermore do that frequently and it sounds fantastic. Becoming The Archetype may bring to mind a bit from Opeth and Atheist to Sepultura and Carcass.
Musically, the five skilled players constitute an obviously tight band, full of appetite to compose original material. When they are not carried away babbling they deliver well balanced aggressive progressive death/ thrash, all packaged with a great production plus Tue Masden's (The Haunted, Heaven Shall Burn, Hateshere) mixing and mastering.
Their music is constantly changing facades, from the moshing barbarity to jazzy prog frolics and from groovy death metal to 80ies metal passages. The Opeth-like brutal vocals are a field in need of improvement. None the less nicely done, the vocals are typical enough to affect the dynamics of the compositions.
So far, so good but have we then discovered the band who will inherit the thorny crown of Coroner? Probably not! Without a doubt a good effort and Horns Up to brothers Becoming The Archetype but I personally got a bit tired after three or four songs. It is likely that Terminate Damnation will satisfy many extreme prog metal fans, especially young ones.
Consequently, if Becoming The Archetype resist the all devouring streams of NWOAHM or nu metal, their next album has good perspectives to be a very pleasant surprise.
