Axis - No Man's Land (Re-issue) album cover

Honestly? I thought they were a different band, there is German Hard Rock band with the same name but it's spelt differently. Once getting over this initial confusion, I could write the review knowing I was talking about the right band. AXIS were a Heavy Metal band hailing from the USA who formed in 1981 and No Remorse Records released a re-issue of their one and only album "No Man's Land". It was originally on cassette and it has been released on CD for the very first time. For those who are fans of Melodic Metal and Hard Rock this album is definitely a treat as it really is a rare hidden gem.

The melodies on this album are brilliantly catchy infused with iconic vocal work, brilliant guitar riffs and rolling drums; key features of successful tunes of the eighties era. Almost wants to make you call the members one by one to make another release and start touring to promote it. This record consists of many highlights and the typical, predictable sorts of tracks we all love that you can expect to find on this sort of record. For example we have the track with the incredibly memorable chorus in the form of "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow", the beautiful 80s ballad "No Man's Land", the fist-pumping anthem "Top of The Hill" and that track that encourages us to dance to a.k.a. "Piece Of The Action".

In terms of sound quality; at first I wasn't overly taken by the fact you needed to turn it up to full volume just to be able to listen it or the fuzzy sound on some of tracks from the way they were recorded at first. However once you realise that it was first recorded onto to a cassette tape, not quite sure where, it gives you a different perspective; a vintage perspective, a classic that will never die.

Overall conclusion? Particularly if you are a fan of Hard Rock from the eighties I recommend getting this limited re-issue.
