Primacy Arrival

Axiom Chaos

O good first coming from a promising new Brutal Death Metal act.
July 1, 2025

Since the North American acts from Second Wave of Death Metal started to evolve from the format of the 80s to something a bit more personal (as MORBID ANGEL did on “Covenant”, just to name an example), slowly the traditional ways of the genre became more and more brutal and aggressive, and sometimes, many acts bump into the limits of Brutal Death Metal. One fine example of it is AXIOM CHAOS, as heard on “Primacy Arrival”, the duet’s first full-length. The sound quality is what’s expected from an USA Death Metal band that uses influences of Brutal Death Metal: oppressive, aggressive and with nasty instrumental tunes, but trying to be as defined as the genre allows.

It must be said that things work in a good way in such aspect, indeed, but it could be better. It’s not a sin to say that the duet is a Brutal Death Metal act with influences inherited from classic US Death Metal, especially from MORBID ANGEL on “Covenant”/“Domination” days, and CANNIBAL CORPSE on the age between “Eaten Back to Life” and “The Bleeding”. It’s aggressive and brutal, but with many slow tempos filled with extreme low grunts. Of course they did a good work, but it’s clear that this duet still has some aces up its sleeve, indeed.

For those addicted to Death Metal and Brutal Death Metal, moments as “The King, I Am”, “Primacy Arrival”, “The Gift of Recognition”, “Extraterrestrial Necrotic Urge”, “Antediluvian Origin Unknown”, “Wormhole Pathways of Conquest” and “Exodus into Oblivion” will show very good guitar riffs and arrangements, solid bass guitar and drums rhythms and nasty growls, but of course they can do better than is shown here. “Primacy Arrival” fulfills its duty: to present AXIOM CHAOS to the extreme Metal fans, but the duet still has potential to create better music, so let’s wait for their next assault.
