Astral Experience

Although many of the songs are heavy with keyboards and even piano, I am a lover of all things keys. The album was solid, and the production outstanding, but the band could work on their diversity a bit, as many of the songs were very close to one another in length.

From their EPK, “ASTRAL EXPERIENCE (Originally founded as ASTRAL) is a Progressive metal act formed back in 2015 which combines the majesty of the power metal elements with the excellence of the technical progressive music.” The new album has eight songs, and “Marioneta de Cristal” is first. The sound is very electronic forward, with some heavy technical notes as well. It sounds more like Power Metal in the pacing to me, and it is sung in the band’s native language. “Reloj de Arena” also has a heavy keyboard/electronic sound, but the guitar riffs round out the sound and fill in the gaps. The chorus also has some nice vocal harmonies, and a big emotional punch.

“Abismo” has some biting chops to it and the band displays their musicianship as well as their sense of Progressive style. The chorus is rich and full also. “Mil Batallas” has a heavy entrance that give way to melodic clean guitar passages, and the band is very adept at these transitions. Although the music is very well put together, it doesn’t excite me as much as it should. “Hechizo” has another strong combination of electronica with guitars, as well as emotional vocal harmonies. The key change is nice as well…it keeps the listener on their toes. “Volver a empezar” is another keyboard forward sound with some Power Metal elements in the guitars an drums. This song is very well put together.

“Despertar” is slower and more poignant, and leads are very well done. “Espiral (Ego pt. III)” closes the album. The song has a strong combination of guitars, keyboards, and emotive vocals. There are also some Djent moments. Overall, the thing that strikes me most about the band is their obvious talent. Although many of the songs are heavy with keyboards and even piano, I am a lover of all things keys. The album was solid, and the production outstanding, but the band could work on their diversity a bit, as many of the songs were very close to one another in length.
